Arrival and Orientation at the Caracalla Spa
The reception desk in the entrance hall of the Caracalla Spa is efficient and friendly, the staff speak English, and are clearly used to helping and advising new visitors. Visitors pay for the number of hours that they wish to spend in the spa in advance, and are directed to the first floor to the changing rooms.
Friendly staff are on hand to advise first time visitors before and after changing.
Lockers for clothes are available in the changing area. Valuables, including money for the café within the spa, may be put in smaller, more secure lockers just within the pool area itself; do ask staff for advice if you cannot find them.
Towels may be hired from the spa shop in the entrance hall, or you can bring your own. Visitors must wear a swimming costume everywhere except in the saunascape area which is clearly marked within the spa.
Inside the Caracalla Spa
The Caracalla Spa is divided into three main areas:
- The Indoor bathing area whose main feature is a large thermal mineral water pool in which you can swim, surrounded by smaller pools, a steam room, a saltwater inhalation room (press the button to release additional vaporized saltwater) and a rocky “grotto” featuring hot and cold waters and a lovely waterfall. As in all German Spas, there is ample space for relaxation on sun loungers.
- The Saunascape. This nudist area features six indoor treatment rooms from the classic Finnish sauna to a steam bath. Visitors unaccustomed to communal nudity generally relax very quickly in the Saunascape thanks to the laid back and relaxed atmosphere within.
- The Outdoor bathing area, featuring a thermal mineral water pool, log cabin saunas and the inevitable sun loungers. Germans take relaxation very seriously!
Opening Times of the Caracalla Spa
Opening hours valid 1st January 2009.
The Caracalla Spa is:
- open daily from 8am – 10pm
- closed 24th and 25th December
- open 8am – 8pm 31st December
Last admission is 2 hours before closing time.
Admission Costs to the Caracalla Spa
- 13 euros for two hours
- 15 euros for three hours
- 17 euros for four hours
when paid for in advance, otherwise each additional 15 minutes will be charged at 1 euro. Reduced rates are available for groups and for multiple visits. Prices valid 1st January 2009.
