Lavender is among the most popular of traditional scents and the queen of floral healing fragrances. Now there are more ways than ever to enjoy its beneficial properties.

Lavender has been used for centuries to sweeten stale air, improve sleep, and relieve stress and tension. Unfortunately, despite its appeal, not all lavender products hold the scent well. Here are five items noted for both lasting scent and quality of the product.

Lavender Scented Sachets that Last

Nothing speaks of loving care for clothes and linens better than a lavender sachet tucked in drawers, closets, and chests. World Market, of Cost Plus Inc., offers one of the best, both for its strong scent and reasonable price. Sold as Lavender Potpourri, the dried flowers come in a pretty, berribone gauze bag. Kept in a closed space, the fragrance of these sachets will last for years. At $4.99 an ounce, they make a delightful and inexpensive gift.

Lavender Spray Mist Refreshes Stale Air

Another favorite lavender product is spray mist. The lasting power of scented mists can be notoriously short, but Sonoma Lavender Spray Mist is a good one. At $15.95 for four ounces, it is a tad pricey but a little goes a long way. Sprayed on the body, the mist is refreshing and soothing. It works wonders to freshen up and personalize hotel rooms and offices and is heavenly when sprayed on bed linens.

Peace Valley Farm out of Pennsylvania also offers a mist sold as Lavender Sheet and Pillow Spray. At $12.00 for eight ounces, it is well-priced and, according to the owners, one of their best-selling products. Shipping fees are reasonable as well.

Lavender Bath Soap with a Luxurious Lather

There is no shortage of brands to choose from when it comes to lavender bath soap, but like other lavender products, it is hard to find one that offers a robust fragrance. South of France Lavender Bath Soap not only exudes the strong scent of the flower, but provides a rich and creamy lather. And unlike smaller bars that melt away quickly, this soap is offered in a large 8.8 ounce traditional block.

South of France soap comes in other fragrances as well. It leaves no residue and is non-drying. It can be found at World Market stores, usually selling for $5.99 a bar. During sale periods, it is a real bargain at $3.99.

Lavender Lip Balm in a Non-greasy Formula

A more unusual lavender product is lip balm. Green Acres Lavender Farm in Atascadero on the Central Coast of California makes a delightfully smooth lavender lip moisturizer sold in a small finger pot. This balm is all-natural, non-greasy, and strongly scented. Visitors can buy the balm for $5.00 a pot. Green Acres also offers it on their website as part of a lavender gift pack. It’s wonderful as a small gift or party favor.

Peace Valley Farm also produces a lavender lip balm in a 1.5 ounce tube. The author has not sampled this yet but at $4.50 for an all-organic concoction, it is on her short list.

Lavender Essential Oil Soothes and Heals

Long esteemed for its healing powers and culinary uses, lavender oil is painstaking to produce. But as one of the only essential oils that can be applied directly to the skin, and with its range of benefits, it is a product that belongs on everyone’s shelf. Lavender oil is effective as an antibacterial and antiseptic, and especially known for its calming properties. Peace Valley Farm’s essential lavender oil is priced at $12.00 for 10 ml.

Lavender’s Enduring Appeal

Lavender has long been a favorite of healers, cooks, and romantic hearts. Any individual who has used an authentic, high quality lavender product knows why. For those who wish to reap the benefits of this evocative flower, and the full pleasure of its unique scent, one cannot be too discriminating. The products described here will not fail to satisfy and may lead the consumer to new and pleasurable lavender experiences.
