Your day has been packed with meetings and your plans to get to the gym have been stalled for the past two weeks.

Even your wife or your husband is starting to comment on the fact that you seem to be putting on some extra pounds. One solution to this could be having a home gym in either your dream home or your condominium.

Owner of Fitness Source, Mitchell Melnick, has a lot of equipment that can help you out.

“In terms of equipment, we cater to everyone,” says Melnick. “The amount of vendors that we have, our quality goes from good to exceptional. There are manufacturers that we carry that are sensitive to height restrictions. The older homes and the condominiums are usually seven feet in height. And this causes big problems.”

Melnick says a company named Vectra makes equipment that is under seven feet and will fit into the older homes and condominiums.

Many men and women are wanting to get into strength training, Melnick says. The company Hoist has equipment that could suit these needs.

“Most of them do have wheels so they can easily be stored. We also carry adjustable dumb bells. It used to be historically that if someone wanted weights they would have to stack them and deal with an incredible amount of weights. Now there are ones that deal with 500 pounds that take up a 3 by 5 space and that used to take up a whole room. The manufacturers that we carry now have something simple that would take up a 5 by 8 space. You can have a fully functional home gym.”

Melnick also says that the other part of it is cardio which is extremely important for keeping fit.

“Ellipticals have become popular,” says Melnick. “People would say we want something that is good for the gym and I want something for our home. The company Octane...they make arguably the best ones in the market. A person who is even six feet going on it could step up on it. It's a club quality product for your home. Another company Vision Fitness – they make a fantastic elliptical that will fold up when you want to put it away. Because of our affiliation with Life Fitness, this is one of the best companies in the world, it is at a fraction of the price for something in the club.”

The most common question that Melnick is asked for a home gym for a condominium or a home is “can my floors support it?”

“People do not realize that even the oldest [homes] can support thousands of pounds in one area,” says Melnick. “The better quality products are usually used the in most homes. These are people who are committed to a healthy lifestyle; it's hard to find a gym and fit it into a day. The thousands of dollars they are spending in a club, they can invest in premium products. The quality of products are passed onto into fantastic warranties.

“People say I cannot believe I missed my workout, the meeting went long. Some people are self-conscious about working out in front of others. The people who have made the investment and do it are extremely happy.”

Other services Fitness Source provides is a personal trainer who will come into your home once you have purchased your home gym to help you know how to use the equipment. Melnick found that 10 years ago when they first started offering the home gyms, some people would come back a month later and say the customer service was great and the equipment is great too...however, “we do not know how to use it.”

The clients can then continue to pay the personal trainer after the first free consultation if they chose to.

Not only does Fitness Source have equipment to suit larger homes and condominiums, they carry products for smaller spaces too.

“The other thing is, for individuals who feel I do not need large pieces of equipment, we are a company that also has smaller equipment for homes, like stability balls, and DVDs and yoga equipment,” Melnick says. “You're compact as far as size wise that way. People should not be intimidated that we have this large amount of equipment. We have martial arts accessories and pilates, that is something we definitely do cater to.”

Fitness Source is affiliated with the Farzani Group. Melnick owns all the franchises through the Farzani Group. He has been in the fitness industry for 15 years.

I found that the TotalGym products range in price and size. You can get a cheap Total Gym for about $250. Or you can get a really nice model (the 14000 model) for about $1000. That is the one I got and there are about a hundred exercises listed on their website (TotalGym.com) -- click on the Exercise Library. I've had mine for 6 year with no problems. -Sean
