How to Prevent Wrinkles from the Inside Out

Know Which Super Foods Stave Off Wrinkles and Premature Aging

Oct 1, 2009 Tracey Drake

Everyone ages over a lifetime. However, following the right diet that includes a daily intake of super foods can prevent wrinkles, premature aging and early death.

What goes into the body has a direct and visible effect on how the body looks on the outside, and the rapidity of aging. Without question, one of the best ways to avoid premature aging and to maintain healthy, youthful skin is to eat a well-balanced and nutritious diet every day. However, in recent years, some foods have made headlines because of their super ability to fight aging and prevent wrinkles.

Water Keeps the Skin Hydrated

Of course, the one everyone knows about is H2O, a bare necessity for healthy skin. Experts advise drinking four glasses of water each day, or the equivalent of 32 ounces. If plain water is not appealing, add fresh lemon, Crystal Light or Nestle Ice Tea Singles to boost the flavor.

Skin is 90% water, and because of this, skin becomes dry, unhealthy and wrinkled when it is deprived of water. In relation to the three types of wrinkles, drinking plenty of water will help to slow or deter the appearance of static wrinkles and wrinkle folds, and help to keep skin plump and vibrant to prevent dynamic wrinkles from being visibly obvious.

Vitamin C is an Anti-Aging Necessity

Oranges, strawberries and other foods rich in vitamin C are exceptional fruit choices for combating the signs of aging. Vitamin C is one of the proven ingredients to maintain healthy collagen. It is also acceptable to take a high quality Vitamin C supplement, as long as it is taken consistently every day.

Garden fresh tomatoes are exceptional wrinkle prevention foods because they contain large amounts of vitamin C and lycopene. Other tasty vegetables to include in an anti-aging diet include red peppers (chock full of vitamins A and E), red beets (vitamin A and C), and carrots (high source of vitamin A). Kale and fresh blueberries are both naturally rich in antioxidants, which aid in delivering oxygen to the skin and help to prevent premature aging.

For years now, nutritionists and aging specialists have suggested that vitamins C, A and E, in conjunction with zinc and selenium, are critical in deferring wrinkles and other visible signs of aging. This is because this important combination of vitamins and minerals work together to reduce the level of harmful free radicals produced by the skin cells.

Since Vitamin C, along with vitamin A and E are important to fight the signs of aging, a balanced diet that is rich in vitamins will go a long way to reduce the number of static wrinkles that appear and help to decrease the visibility of dynamic facial wrinkles.

Acai Berry – the Super Fruit

Acai berry is the new kid on the anti-aging block and it is getting a lot of well-deserved attention. The acai berry, now considered one of the most powerful foods in the world, is a grape sized fruit that is grown in the palm trees of the Amazon rainforest. This miracle fruit contains the same healthy fats that are found in olive oil, and contains 50% essential fatty acids. Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids are essential for healthy skin cell structure.

The antioxidants in the acai berry help to prevent aging by eliminating free radicals. Also rich in calcium, amino acids and antioxidants, the acai berry is as good for your skin as milk, egg whites and blueberries.

Stay Away from Bad Face Foods

Most people today are aware that eating a regular diet that is filled with saturated fats, sugars and oils is very unhealthy. Research now suggests it actually leads to premature aging, including early onset of wrinkles and age spots. The good news is that a recent study on anti-aging showed that people were less likely to have wrinkled skin if they ate a regular diet that was rich in fresh vegetables, nuts, multigrains, olive oil and beans. Researchers have also revealed that eating four to five servings of fruits and vegetables each day may be a promising way to protect vulnerable skin cells from UV radiation.
