By permanently changing your way of thinking and decision making, you can positively alter both your physical and mental health indefinitely.

Making a lifestyle change is no easy task. It takes a determined will and an honest longing for real change. But if you are ready, little by little, you can transform your lifestyle into a healthy, happy, effective way of life.

Internal Spring Cleaning

Whether you want to lose the weight and keep it off, or if you want to develop new ways to make healthy decisions, it is possible. Look at it as if you are spring cleaning the insides of your mind and body. First thing’s first, you must become conscious and aware of how you treat your body. Do you fill it with fast food? Do you deprive it of sleep? Do you exercise? All of these factors go into building a healthy sustainable lifestyle. In order to make a change, you have to know where the changes need to happen.

Come Up with a Plan

After you recognize the need for change, come up with a game plan to attack these issues . It can be easy to become overwhelmed, but like when you are cleaning your house, clean up your lifestyle by tackling each ‘task’ one at a time.

For instance, if you are making ill-considered food choices, recognize when you slip and change your habits. If junk food is your downfall, get rid of it. Out of sight, out of mind. By surrounding yourself with good, healthy food options, you cannot gorge on the potato chips. Keep healthy, easy on the go snacks around so you don’t fall into the unhealthy trap of the vending machine. If your bad decisions are made due to a lack of time, plan out your weekly meals on Sunday, prepare anything you can for the week, and stick to the schedule. Creating a routine can help you develop consistency that can ultimately convert these changes into daily habits.

Getting Active

If you find yourself in front of the television more often than being active, bring in the vacuum and suck that inactive lifestyle right up. You don’t necessarily have to take up running marathons, but simply walking the park can be a good alternative to couch time. By incorporating physical activity into your daily life, you will not only be reaping vital health benefits, but you will develop Self Confidence, have more energy and sleep better at night. Joining the local gym can open your eyes to an entirely different lifestyle. Participating in classes like yoga, spinning, or Pilates can bring you into a new social network and increase overall health.

By educating yourself on health issues and being a conscious consumer, lifestyle change is within your reach. While fad-diets come and go, the benefits of lifestyle change are long lasting and you can receive the health benefits each and every day. Mistakes happen, acknowledge them, learn from them, but most importantly move on and don’t dwell. By being cognizant of your actions and decisions, you can make that lifestyle change and be left with a clean, healthy body and mind.
