Simple Tips to Good Health

Creating a New Healthy Routine

Jan 16, 2009 Linda Hatton

Making these minor adjustments in your daily routine can lead to a healthier body and mind.

While making any change in lifestyle can feel like an intimidating task, these simple steps can help ease the transition into a more healthful lifestyle.

Feed your Body

  • Go to bed one half-hour earlier and strive to maintain the same sleep schedule every day.
  • Clear household clutter by getting rid of one un-used item every week – or if you’re feeling inspired, every day.
  • Eat something raw with every meal. This may include not only fruits and vegetables but also nuts such as raw almonds. Chop them up and put them on top of your breakfast cereal or eat a handful with your meal.
  • For many busy people, finding time to exercise is difficult. Add in some simple morning stretches such as the plow yoga pose, which helps to stretch the spine and oxygenate the body. Additionally, find a parking space farther away rather than closer when going shopping or dining out.
  • Wear more natural fibers such as cotton which allows the pores to breathe better than synthetic fibers.

Feed Your Mind

  • If you watch television, take note of shows that leave you with a “bad” feeling and then watch less of these shows. Eventually, cut them out of your routine altogether.
  • Listen to music that makes you feel happy. An easy place to do this is on Pandora on-line radio where you can create a radio station based on the music you like by entering the name of a musician or a song.
  • Quiet your mind through meditation every day. Starting with just five minutes a day can help relieve stress and open yourself up to your intuitive voice. If focus is a problem, try concentrating on the flame of a candle as you meditate.
  • Take in some part of nature for 15 minutes a day. This can be accomplished by working with houseplants, walking in your yard, or at a local park. If possible walk barefoot on natural earth as opposed to concrete.
  • Routine tasks can act as a type of meditation. Note the everyday tasks you perform that help your mind to wander off into deep thought which is a good way to find assistance for problem solving. After your chore is done, take ten minutes to write down any thoughts in a journal.

These are only a few of the trouble-free changes which may help lead the way to a healthier new you. Using a little creativity can help you to make even more healthy modifications in your routine. Your body and mind will thank you.
