Ever feel like you're stuck, disconnected, or out of balance? Making a few simple changes in your world can make a world of difference.
We seem to be so caught up in the future that we forget today. Our quest for a better title and the almighty dollar has taken us from what is truly important, the present. The quote, "Yesterday is History. Tomorrow is a Mystery. Today is a Gift... that's why it's the Present" dates back to 1225 when St. Marher first spoke the words, "And te tide and te time þat tu iboren were, schal beon iblescet." Later Babatunde Olatunji rephrased it and even Joan Rivers has been credited with the quote. Regardless of who you favor, the quote's meaning remains the same—Live for today, appreciate today, today is precious. The very best way to find time for today is to simplify your life. What is Simplicity?Taken from the Wikipedia dictionary, "Simplicity is the property, condition, or quality of being simple or un-combined. It often denotes beauty, purity or clarity. Simple things are usually easier to explain and understand than complicated ones. Simplicity can mean freedom from hardship, effort or confusion." To simplify is to minimize; to slow down on the pursuit of wealth and consumption. People choose simple living for a variety of reasons, such as spirituality and health. It helps to bring you to your authentic self. Most importantly, it reduces stress and creates time for important things, such as time- for Self or with friends or family. Let's get started! The 10 Steps to Simplify your Life: De-Clutter- GIVE away clothing, toss files, rid yourself of any object that isn't being used. (Yes, this includes the wardrobe you've been collecting for 30 years.) Clear Your Calendar- Rid yourself of any unnecessary obligations. Decline invitations that don't activate feelings of inspiration. Keep Your "Free Time" Free- Schedule time for yourself every day and don't be afraid to say "no" to people who attempt to invade on that time. An appointment with yourself is just as important as any other on your calendar. Take 20 Minutes for God Every Day- Regardless of your interpretation of what God is, you need to take time to commune with that Source every day. Examples of this include yoga, meditation, reflection and prayer. Remove Yourself from Negative Situations and People- When you find someone is really getting under your skin, give them a silent blessing and remove yourself from the situation. For example, if your co-worker is bothering you, say to yourself "Thank you for being you" and simply walk away. Take Time for Your Health Every Day- Your body is a sacred temple. You will feel more energized, balanced and confident while raising serotonin levels and achieving a sense of accomplishment by exercising and eating properly. Play Rather than Work Your Way Through Life- Life is too short to work at something you don't love! Find the points about your job that really inspire you, things you really enjoy and focus on them. Check your gut--if it doesn't fulfill and satisfy you, move on. Slow Down- Be mindful. Think of what you're eating; think of what you're doing. Slow down and enjoy the beauty in things. Remove Debt from Your Life- Do anything you can to remove debt. Debt is decidedly unspiritual--being debt free is spiritually free. Living beneath your means gives you an incredible feeling of freedom. When you accumulate debt, you are putting your life in the hands of the creditors and you are not free. Remember Your Spirit- You're in perfect timing with all creation. Stop and remember that. Where to find more information Dr Wayne Dyer has some wonderful books, CDs and DVDs full of information on how to simplify, stay in balance and live an inspirational (in-spirit) life. Once you take action on a few of these steps you will find more abundance, clarity and less stress!
