Another year has gone by and it's time to make some New Year's resolutions. Whether or not you accomplished resolutions from last year, check out this year's top ten.

New Year's resolutions are peculiar things. At the beginning of each new year, people make resolutions, or plans, on how they can improve on themselves and their lives in the coming year. Whether or not people actually follow through on these resolutions is up to debate. Considering that each year the top resolutions are always similar, it seems that people seem to be having a wee bit of trouble sticking to their resolutions. Why not make this year the one that you will make your resolutions come true! To give you an idea on where to start, here are the proposed Top 10 New Year's resolutions for 2009.

Get Out of Debt

With the economy going the way it is, this may be a hard resolution to tackle. That's why it should be your number one resolution. There's no better time than the present to tackle money issues. Find out where you are spending your money and cut back on unnecessary purchases such as cigarettes, coffees, eating out and clothing purchases. Use the money you save to go towards your debt.

Lose Weight and Get in Shape

This is the resolution that makes year after year! People just can't seem to get into shape. A lot of this has to do with will power, so tell yourself that you can do it! If you believe in yourself you can get yourself in shape. For some people this will involve losing a lot of weight while for others is might just be getting into shape for good health. Sign up for a gym with friends or family members to ensure social support.

Quit Smoking

You already know that smoking is bad for you, so why haven't you quit already? It goes back to will power. If you have the will power to quit, then you can. If not, then you may not want to put this as one of your New Year's resolutions. Find another smoker with whom you can quit smoking together. This will help you to get past those terrible cravings.

Spend More Time with Family

Family is the most important thing in a person's life, but some people don't seem to realize this. If you're one of these people that spends more time at work and on business calls then talking with your son or daughter at the dinner table then you should seriously consider this New Year's resolutions. Time is too precious to let slip away.

Get a Raise or Promotion at Work

So you've been in a working slump for the last couple years. It's about time that you show your boss your worth and that you deserve to be rewarded for the hard work that you put in at work. Set high goals and work and follow through on them. Be a leader and a problem solver. Your boss will notice your improved dedication and hard work and will reward you for them with a raise or promotion.

Find a New Job

For all of those who are unhappy in your work, maybe this is the year that you start looking for a new job. Don't suffer anymore day after day with a job that you hate. If you have the resources and good resume then don't be afraid to start looking for other options.

Take a Vacation

Not many people go on vacations, either from the lack of funds or the lack of time. But time is precious and you need to enjoy your life each and every day. So go on your vacation. Vacation is a time to escape from the daily routine of life to relax and spend time with loved ones.

Help Others

Instead of making resolutions to better your own live why not make a resolution to better the lives of others. Volunteer at your local retirement home or hospital where you'll make a difference in the lives of many special people. If you have the financial means then donate to your favorite charities. You don't have to make an extravagant gesture to help someone.

Learn Something New

Take some risks this year. This doesn't mean that you have to go sky diving, but maybe there's a hobby that you'd like to take up such as painting or taking yoga classes. Maybe you want to learn how to play the piano or maybe you want to learn another language. Whatever it is, try something new that challenges your mind

Go Back to School

Was there ever something in school that you always wanted to study but never got the chance? Maybe it was psychology, fine art or religion and culture. Whatever it was now is the time to go back to school and follow your dreams. Leave no room in your life for regrets.
